Strøm Festival 2009

So last night I went to Strøm Festival, which took place for the third time in a row and before that was known as Public Service Festival presented by the national danish broadcasting station. As every year the line up had again some great surprises and I can just recommend this event for those who haven't been there yet and have the time (as I am writing, there is still two days left).

This years event all went off with opening party at under vandet, which is the alternative name for one of the subway stations in Copenhagen. My homies Jkamata and 2000F along side others throw the first party there. Very interesting event at day time was also a "mobile disco" inside the subway with live music by Mikkel Metal, Bjørn Svin and others. They composed a soundtrack specially for this event, while cruising thru the city in the subway. Interesting project! I had the chance to get to know Bjørn himself at our event last year in the local butcher town. Anyways, back on topic I want to highlight yesterdays event as a special as it was day 2 of the main event basically. Oh, before I go on about yesterday - Pan Sonic (Finland) played at the Culture Box Thursday night! Now this is a very rare thing and I always wanted to see them live as I have been following the project (earlier known as Panasonic, but due to a lawsuit by the same company renamed). So I was pretty excited about this and Was really looking forward to finally see them life, thou when it now finally came to it I was simply too tired from the long day so I had to stay at home and I am not sure if this was a good Idea or not (anybody been there? got a comment?).

So last night I got kinda late there and missed therefor the Gudrun Gut (Berlin, Germany) side-project. Enjoyed the nice DJ set of Belgian Aeroplane who played a interesting House mixture of 80ies music. After an hour long set and a short pause by a DJane from the radio, the main act and reason for me to attend - Flying Lotus (USA) got on he stage together with Dr. Srangeloop. The concert was waaaay to short! Starting with the typical mixture of hip-hop and experimental electronics and later on digging into some dubstep tunes, even playing Bar9 who played a DJ set later on the evening another place in town. Clearly, and to my big surprise, the audience enjoyed the show as well as more and more people came to Enghave plads. So it became quiet crowded really and if I can say something bad about this event then clearly that the sound was too weak. I had the impression even that they turned down the volume while Flying Lotus was playing, as I didn't felt this was an issue before. Unfortunately as mentioned, the entire thing ended precisely at midnight and the sound guy didnt even allow us an extra track.

Tonight it is Mary Anne-Hobbs (BBC Radio1 experimental show) who is headlining the event and I am sure it will be a blast. I wont be around thou, as I am at the Kraftwerk concert in Randers. So more about that later on.
