Review: DNBzone at Nedsat 19/11/2005

Ok. i am a bit late with this and havent really been active with updateing my blog lately but i am back on track :) SO tonight will come a major update.

I had last weekend visit from Mahout (norway), who joined me for this event. Actually we got there pretty late as we because of a strange idea of mine first visited a former flatmate of mine .. she is quite strange and they went, not as actually agreed on, to another bar instead of Nedsat that night. So we joined em there but i didnt felt like going there so we left and headded around 1 oclock to Nedsat. I cant really say that there were many people but the music was good.. Don Skeleton played some jungle tracks. Pretty nice.. but as mentioned, it wasnt really packed.. on the other side, we can be glad for that as the venue is very small and in my opinion not made for these kind of events. The bass is not really available (i guess cos its in the middle of the center town and the neighbours wouldnt be so happy about that) and the dancefloor is just waaaaaay too small. Normally this is a bar with included Record shop - which is a great idea i think. As that it is also very good.. but just not more.. its simply not a club and the fact that the people are also standing on the dancefloor and its totally shiny bright, makes it maybe attractive for House parties but not Drum and Bass events (or in that sense, anykind of non-pop-music). Although i must admit that the dancefloor is really good and nice to dance on it.. its wooden tree and it gives flexibility.. so you can hop and everything.. so that is really good. But this evening, 10 people on the dancefloor, 4-5 dancing.. the rest standing around.. also a MC on the dancefloor.. so it was filled up. Then around the dancefloor is the DJ desk and the bar (one side) and then you have some seats higher up.. but in the front area (the "club" part is on the back of the pub) hosted almost nobody that evening.. you can hear the music also there.. but .. i guess it wasnt attratcting if nobody inside was visible. It got more crowded later on.. i think between 2 and 3 .. which was fine. Also met Tim Driver from OHOI-crew who i had a little chat with.. he is a very nice guy.. as my impression of all the OHOI members are actually. Oh btw. i were thursday night out as the were DJing at the culture box .. in the matter of fact, it was a disastur :) nobody went there.. maybe 15 people in total. Never seen that venue so empty.. but i think its because of the bad weather and they didnt really made announcement for it.. the music was very nice and they had the chance to experiment, but it was just not so nice without people and it was even cold inside that beton bunker. Left quit early again.. but because of work next day, otherwise i would have stayed longer i guess. Anyways..i had a nice but short chat there with DJ 2000F too. Seems like they know me soon.. i wonder from why :-D
Okay.. Tim has no chance not to know me.. at the Stengade party i almost hopped on him in excitement of the evening.. poor him! Hahahaha :) i was sweaty all over.. but he was kind and said its ok (what else should he have said anyways?).

Ehh.. back on topic. So the Nedsat party was nice as soon as soulmatic played some of his own stuff which was really nice i must admit! I think this guy is worht to keep an eye on.. also talked to DJ Drop aka Jeppe, who again excused for talking english for me the last time :) I was bit amused by his dialekt but he is a very friendly guy and actually i should drop (haha!) him a mail.
After soulmatic, DJ Drop put some records on and then got support from an MC.. i was amazed! This guy (the MC) was sooo good. I didnt knew we had so talented MCs in town. Hey, where was this guy before? Why didnt anybody discoverd him before? Where is him from? WHO is he? As i remember from Jeppe, he mentioned something with MC Fanatik or Frantic or something similar sounding to this. I hope to see/hear him again at some point. About Jeppe aka DJ Drop, he is doing better and better as a DJ! I remember in the starting of his DJing he had a nice selection but he was really not able to do the mixing part.. now he seems to be more comfortable with is and doing scratches and rewinds and the mixing is just in a flow. So this guy is getting really good :) Good boy ay?

As Daniel (Mahout) got tired and anyways was bit besides him, also exicted about coming back home to Norway again the next day, we left around 3 oclock. Early i must say but it was okay with me.. i had my little stepdance of the day and was also bit tired.

In the meantime, dnbzone has the pictures online from the Nedsat party from 19-11-2005

So.. tonight, saturday 26/11-2005 is the next thing with DJ Drop. Pilot Music having a release party, but i wont attend as i am invited for a birthday today. Pity thou..

Nico De'Frost Feat MC Ane Trolle (Lækker Lytter)
DJ Repulse (Universal) RaggaJungle-Set
DJ Drop (DNBzone)
DJ Grittey (Sweden) + Lucy Love
Thermal (Norway)

in the bar area is Soulmatic + maria sita playing Live and DJ Gourmet + DJ Sammy and DJ Spinello (also Lækker Lytter) playing the more soft or liquid side of DNB i guess. All this as Culture Box, Kronprinsessegade 54A in COPENHAGEN!!! :) Yeah.

A little bit of Drum n Bass news

Hello and good evening :)

I thought i spread some news i got to know and which might be of interest.

Calibre is working on a brand new EP (Back 2 Forward), which supposed to be out in some weeks and i guess its worth to listen. I hope that either the OHOI guys or DNBzone will get him in town at some point as he is really standing for high quality. Nice follow up to Hype :)

Artificial Intelligence is on this weeks Breezeblock with a great DNB set. They play the most recent records and its a nice mix of Liquid Funk and melodic Drum and Bass. I realize that even if Liquid Funk isnt a musical style for it self, everybody is talking about it and its being used everywhere. Grooverider also made Fun of it in one of his recent shows by calling himself Liquid Funk :) But he is right, Liquid Funk is everywhere. So what is Liquid Funk? A CD? A Compilation? New Genre in DNB? As always is the truth somewhere out there. Btw. Ed Rush & Optical is on L Double's show on BBC 1xtra this week, so you can relisten to the two shows untill monday, respective tuesday night.

Big big recommandation from me: GET THE NEW NOISIA EP!!!
These three dutchies are the next upcoming stars, after Pendulum if you ask me. Very high quality of production and the creativity of their releases is a blast. They really go their own direction. I have a couple of their releases now and its really interesting to see that each one differs from the other. They made a great remix of Visage's Fade to Gray in Drum n Bass style and their new EP THE TIDE / CONCUSSION is just a Blast. Including my favorit Lekker (Dutch: ~wicked, cool, great) which is a total dancefloor smasher. So keep an eye on these guys!
Btw. It is released on their own vision imprint, and if you want to know how the name came of.. turn the word VISION around and you'll know it ;)

New Mix CD: Fabriclive 25 feat. High Contrast
Yes, the new famous Fabric club in London brings another edition of its series of mix CDs with Lincoln Barrett aka High Contrast this time. In all 22 tracks with 72 mins of finest Drum and Bass including artists like Logistics, Blame, Cyantific, Total Science and London Electricity. The CD is out on december the 5th.

Two great DNB websites!

I found two nice websites. DNB-Flyer.de which is interesting for some history research of past Drum and Bass parties and the database is already in a nice size (actually problem with the website is that its pretty slow). Untill now most of the flyers are from Germany but the thought is to make it international and there are already some Flyers from Holland, the US and Swiss around. As i read it is possible to upload flyers yourself.

And even better is actually the PDF-Magazine "Cuemix" which just came out with no. 4 including interviewes and features from Dirty Princess, Echo Depth Finders, Oliver Drewes/Carharrt, Benjamin Diamond, Belladonna Killz, Thinner Netlabel a.o. but the best is the interview with Fabio. You can download it here.

This sounds like THEEEE event for the valantine weekend, doenst it? I mean.. could it be better? No! Thats it. So i am thinking of we shouldnt go there? The fact is, it would be a lot of fun for sure and if we are a bunch of people (stranger or friend, who ever you might be in this case) it would be fun to go there as a group and experience a bit different weekend then usuall. The Linieup speaks for itself and the city does the same.

Feel free to contact me about how you thinking of this? Maybe doing a internordic travel, collecting some DNB heads from DK and SE to go all together? Let me know how you feeling about it.

What a night, DJ Hype rocked big time!

HYPE HYPE HYPE HYPE HYPE HYPE HYPE HYPE HYPE HYPE

This was a Killer event. Arrived with Daniel around 1 o'clock there and it was already packed and very warm inside, we spent some time in the queue outside and inside infront of the wardrobe. And we just made it to see the last minutes of the swedish DJ crew who played pretty well but, the feeling of something bigger coming up in short time was there and of course, DJ Hype took over the decks and he started with Pendulum's Slam to smash the dancefloor rightaway. During the night he played a lot of Pendulum tracks, also Tarantula and the Prodigy Voodoo Poeple Remix from the new album (The Law). Actually the entire DNB charts were played, Q Project, Logistics, Chase and Status (duppy man!) ans Shy Fx & T Power just to name a vew.
MC daddy Earl pushed the crowed, even if the sound wasnt the best and it was quite hard to understand him singing but he made is job very well and the crowd blessed it with not only good vibes but also alot of screaming and specially dancing madly - including me. My shirt was completely wet and i felt like being at Maschinenfest :) just that the people were bit more opend and it was easy to get in contact and dance with eachother. I met also some nice people on the dancefloor and we had pretty much fun. Too bad that Daniel went so early again, but he was sick .. so .. otherwise he would have loved it i think. Today i have almost no voice as i was shouting so loud and i have a big blue mark on my knee and my new shoes arent looking that new anymore :-/ well, hard start but they better getting used to it, ay?

All in all, it was a great event, night and i had a lot of fun. I met very nice people and the athmosphere was very good and friendly, no trouble at all and i think both Hype and MC Daddy Earl were impressed (not only of the nice danish girls *haha*). I also got to talk to Jeppe from DNBzone (who strangly talked english to me, dunno why) and Tim Driver from the OHOI crew, who took it quite calm as i gave him a big hug with me totally swetty *hihi*
Please: more of this! We need it.

Its weekend ...

..and tonight is both my colleagues birthday and DJ Hype!!! My god, i am looking madly forward to this one.. i still need to do some things and try to catch some more sleep later, as the birthday starts already at 19:00 and then later i meet up with B-Boy Mahout, who join me for tonights event. I expect quite a lot tonight, newest Dubplates from TruePlayerz and regular club smashers. So it will be very interesting to see how he's like and how many people will come, but i could imagine that it will be packed. It should be! The advantage of this venue compared to Culture Box is that the club athmosphere comes better and they crowd goes berzerk therein, which is not so likely in the culture box. Where i btw. missed to see Derrick May on thursday..but ..oh well. I dislike clubbing on thursdays as i would have a hard time next day at work.. i know myself :)
But back to the venue, the size of it is just perfect for this kind of event, so i hope that they will have more of their events at Stengade 30 (which is also in walking distance).

Yesterday evening i watched the B-Boy DVD i bought at the BotY2k5 in Braunschweig. My god, what a blast.. i just looooove Junior. He is the most amazing person you could imagine. I would really like to meet him sometime.. and he is just 24! However, i am looking forward to see the DVD of this years Battle of the Year which supposed to come out in december.

So much for now, details of tonight you'll read tomorrow :)

Silence is sexy!

Soo.. i have been quite active today. Work went pretty well, even thou our Sysadmin was teasing me today. The little man with the big muscles is getting a rudeboy slowly :) i think i will have to show him whos the man in the house *giggle*
I am pretty confident that i solved my tasks for this week so i wont have a stressy week as the last ones were or would have been or how to call it... after work i went shopping for a gift. One of my colleagues has his 30th birthday party on saturday and i am invited and somehow i got the job to buy a present in the name of all the others. So we are 13 people and got a very expensive present if you ask me and its me, moron, who had to pay for it in the first step. Which isnt so nice.. i already spend some time with this .. hmm. I think i will just buy a present for my own the next time. Anyways, its supposed to be fun i guess and he will have a big party so its fine.. even if i wont stay very long.

Then afterwards i went to the cinema to see Broken Flowers as mentioned yesterday. Was really good movie, besides the end - which i really disliked or actually were annoyed of. It is this openend kind of thing where you think, oh great.. now they can make a sequel if it sells good. But the pictures very really good, the soundtrack of the movie is very special and nice and the characters are also really good.. Bill Murray is playing a very similar role to Lost in Translation and i must say he does a great job on it. You get very fast into his style and its pretty funny by its own style.. i would say that its a very untypical american movie. Almost no talking (totally different to a movie from the Coen Brothers) but pictures and actions who speak for themselfs. Its worth to see i think.

Next movies on my list is, still, Wallace and Gromit, Mørke and History of Violence.. oh and to Horror movies (The Fog and Besat).

Coming home and the friend of my flatmate is gone.. so now, we are the two of us left.... actually the guy was nice, but it was just a bit too close without having a door between the two rooms (yet).

Puh.. a short one

Well i didnt really had time lately to write my blog, so this will be a short update i think. Since i were at the dentist last week i was pretty busy with work and otherthings like taking care of my sisters kids or i dont know. From friday to sunday i had visit from Christian and his girlfriend and we had a mixed weekend with ups and downs but i was very happy to see him. Its great to have him for visit, even thou i would have wished to spend more time alone with him as the communication was just different with having his girl around.. which is natural too i guess. However, it was good to have him here and we even talked a bit about easyflirt site so maybe we will really bring this baby online soon. We will see..

After they left on sunday, i took a little time out and played helpdesk for my sisters husband and some other friends of mine to fix their computer issues, also José called me to help him installing his Wireless Lan but as he didnt showed up in time, we had to postpone the meetup. Actually it was fine by me cause i had to recover a bit from the weekend which was not enough sleep and too expensive. But instead of sleeping i went to the cinema in the evening and watched Corpes Bride with my old colleague Martin from Pentamind. He is a nice guy and i am happy for him that he stopped working for ad pepper now and will for sure be happy at SaxoBank.. its really so much better. The movie was really nice, typical Tim Burton movie (for the ones who dont know him., he is also the director of a nightmare before christmas). I can really recommand it as its nothing new but very charming and funny too.. in its own special way. But i like this dark type of humor.

So we agreed that we have to meet up soon again to see another movie, history of violence, which we saw the trailer of and it looked really good and also got very good critics.

Yesterday, monday, i had the last day of my probation period and now i am fully employed! So another milestone is done here and i am really happy for it.. i think i am by now well integrated in the team and the thought of taking courses and further education is a great look into the (hopefully) near future :) also i have more responsibilty by now.

Today i finally went to the hairdresser, and even if it was very expensive .. i am quite statified with it. So i guess its worth the money.. well i couldnt change on that anyways. Hm, i have the feeling of getting my first cold in this pre-winter-rainy-depressive-days.

So far so good.. tomorrow i will go again to the cinema and see Broken flowers with Bill Muray, the new Jim Jarmush movie.. supposed to be funny i hope. This time i go with Gerlind, my former teacher, who i havent seen now for a long time.. so it will be very nice to meet up again. Its good that they moved back here and closer to Copenhagen.
Besides that i am awaiting that my flatmates friend will leave, so that i have peace again here.. and that he finally cleans up. By now i am quite annoyed by him .. but thats another topic.
